Description

With expanded access to gambling, many communities are not aware of the potential harms associated with problem gambling, the populations that are disproportionately affected, and the importance of using a public health approach grounded in equity to address it. This introductory training explores the importance of protecting and improving community health, problem gambling concepts and terminology, risk and protective factors, at-risk groups, and connections with related health issues.

Location: Springfield Technical Community College | 1 Armory St, Corridan Room, Springfield, MA 01105

The training will be from 9 am – 12 pm, and lunch from 12-1 pm. Enjoy a light breakfast to start the day and a hearty lunch—both free for all participants!

Learning Objectives

At the end of this training participants will be able to:  

  • Better understand how to apply a public health approach to problem gambling 
  • Describe levels of gambling and their associated risk 
  • Identify problem gambling risk and protective factors  
  • Identify groups at disproportionate risk for developing problem gambling 
  • Better understand the intersections between problem gambling and other behavioral health issues
