Description

This virtual training explores the intersections between problem gambling and violence prevention specifically focusing on intimate partner violence and domestic violence. Participants will learn how socioecological approaches used in violence prevention can also apply to problem gambling prevention efforts. The session will highlight shared risk and protective factors, offer practical strategies for prevention, and introduce tools and resources that can be used when working with individuals at risk.

Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to: 

  1. Describe socioecological approaches to violence prevention that apply to problem gambling prevention.
  2. Understand the intersections between problem gambling and violence, including shared risk and protective factors—particularly those related to intimate partner and domestic violence.
  3. Identify 2-3 strategies for violence prevention and problem gambling prevention.
  4. Apply resources and tools for violence prevention that can be applied with individuals at risk for problem gambling.
