As access to gambling expands, many communities remain unaware of the potential harms, the populations disproportionately affected, and the value of an equity-grounded public health approach. This introductory training explores core problem gambling concepts and terminology, key risk and protective factors, populations at elevated risk, and connections to related health issues. Participants will learn how a public health framework can help protect and improve community well-being.

We will discuss how to use the data to inform planning, program design, implementation, and ongoing quality improvement. But you don’t have to do it alone! This training will describe Motivational Interviewing, Stages of Change, and Diffusion of Innovations as evidence-based models. Participants will learn how to incorporate these evidence-based models into problem gambling prevention programming.
